A type of equipment in the material handling industry that could be used to lift and transport loads from one place to another is referred to as a forklift. Every part of a forklift has a specific function. Different components could be used to transport the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lower and lift the load. There are different types of masts for raising loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.

Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located in the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.

Cab
The forklift cab is located in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated in the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift components is the frame of the truck. This includes the counterweights located at the back which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
