Manitou Forklifts Louisiana
Regular inspections can greatly help to reduce forklift repairs and save you copious amounts of money eventually. The standing joke within the business is a lift truck technician coining the saying "Pay me now, or pay me later," as it normally costs more to procrastinate when it comes to forklifts. For example, the minor fixes that go unrepaired could later turn into expensive repairs.
Tilt Cylinders
Oil leaks are a very serious problem if they are not checked. Check for oil leaks or damage regularly. Oil leakage could lead to uncontrolled mast movement and this can be very unsafe. Whether the leaks are external or in the cylinder, the end result can lead to cylinder drift and loss of vital fluid. When leaks or damage are detected, you normally will have to replace the seals or the entire cylinder assembly.
Chains
You don't want mast lift chains to stretch beyond acceptable limits, so pay attention and look carefully for any indications of damage or wear and tear. Check regularly with a chain wear gauge in order to monitor the wear. If the chain is worn beyond 2 percent or rusted, you should replace the chain. Following these guidelines will help keep your machinery functioning optimally.
Mast
When operating the lift control lever, the mast needs to be moved down and up smoothly, making sure to check if the mast is moving smoothly backwards and forwards. You might have to lubricate the mast strip sliding surfaces if the sliding surfaces are binding. Lubricate their fittings too, because there is a fitting located on either side of the inner mast. The lift bracket side rollers are another lubrication spot.
Forks
Check the tines and check for cracks, damage and wear. It is important to remember that cracked or worn forks could possibly fail without any warning. Any damaged fork of course means taking the truck out of service immediately. If the cracks are deeper than just on the surface, they should be replaced since they truly can't be safely fixed.
