Multi Directional Forklift Louisiana
Used Side Loader Forklift Louisiana - Side loader forklifts are ideal for lifting long and heavy materials in narrow locations such as warehouse aisles, loading docks, lumber yards, etc. These machines have derived their name from the way they unload, load and transport material.
Benefits of Side Loader Forklifts v Standard Forklifts
Forklifts which operate on the standard counterbalance system may become unstable when loading, transporting or unloading heavy, long loads. The side loader is capable of transporting dangerous loads such as piping and timber. Long loads such as timber, steel or pipes are more easily handled because the load is facing in the direction being traveled, reducing the overall width of the equipment and load. Side loaders gift the operator with an unobstructed view. This is often compromised on standard forklifts with the tines or front-carrying load design.
Since the loads are transported along the side of the forklift instead of across the front, the side loader can travel easier through narrow aisles and doorways. The load may have to be lowered or raised to get past obstacles that can increase the chances of destabilizing and cause dangerous tip-overs. A side loader forklift makes much of that maneuvering unnecessary. These units help warehouse locations to manage smaller spaces much more safely.
Programmable travel speeds can be found on many models. Units can lift up to twelve thousand pounds and travel at speeds greater than five miles an hour. This feature allows the operator to match speed to a specific application.
Types of Side Loader Forklifts
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
Side loader forklifts often fall under the Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks classification. This classification, as the title description suggests, encompasses forklifts that operate in narrow aisles and are powered by an electrical source. Excellent for operating in loading docks and warehouses, these units rely on narrow aisle configuration and are moved between close quarters common for storing lumber, bar stock, laminate and carpet. They are also suited for rack storage and feeding machine tools. Narrow aisle locations are popular in warehouses for allowing maximum storage design and efficiency. Class 2 side loaders take up less space compared to traditional forklift trucks. This allows increased efficiency and speed when moving, loading and unloading in narrow aisles. Dangerous internal combustion emissions are eliminated due to their electrical power use, making side loaders excellent for interior applications.
Internal Combustion Engine Side Loader Forklifts
The Class 2 forklifts only apply to side loaders that use electric power. Units that do not rely on electricity do not fall into this category. Side loaders are common at steel and pipe yards and lumber and timber yards. They accurately transport loads from storage areas including racking, flatbeds, and stacking loads in blocks. These machines that are used outside have to deal with uneven ground and different temperatures. This means an internal combustion engine and, sometimes, pneumatic tires are a better option for the job. Side loaders can efficiently load cumbersome items that are long and heavy by securing them in the middle.
Side Loader Forklift Design
The side loader forklift has two kinds of designs, sit down models or stand on models.
Stand On Side Loader Forklifts
Stand-on side loaders are often seen in interior locations. It consists of a platform area that is surrounded by controls and usually found in the middle of the machine. There are several advantages to this design. Stand-on side loaders don’t have an operator seat, allowing for a more streamlined cab design. A forklift operating with a smaller footprint is excellent for working in high-traffic locations. The operator also has increased visibility when operating in a standing position, especially when operating the forklift in reverse. While standing, the operator can turn their body to see the back of the forklift truck while in reverse. In a sit-down machine, operators need to twist their neck and back to get a clear view. This is clearly an advantage in terms of safety as well as comfort. Increased operator visibility also helps to decrease damage to products and facilities. Operators on standing forklifts can enter and exit the machine faster than sit-down cab units.
Sit Down Side Loader Forklifts
The sit-down side loader is more popular than standing loaders. Similar to the side loader stand, the sit-down unit features a centrally located cab. The difference that a sit down forklift has a raised platform with a seat facing the forklift’s control panel. Operator comfort is one of the main advantages of the sit-down side loader. Operators can control the machine from a resting position, greatly reducing fatigue and increasing productivity.
Customizable Features
The side loader has customizable bed length options to be suitable for many jobs. The standard bed length for a side loader was designed to fit a variety of bulky and heavy loads but this can be extended upwards of 60 inches to meet custom jobsite applications. Side loaders need to consider aisle widths and guide rails prior to customization.
Multidirectional abilities are one of the most popular features of these machines. These side loaders have crab steering which allows two wheels to operate independently from the others. Crab steering allows the unit to travel in all four directions by changing the direction of the wheels. The side loader can fit into close quarters and narrow spaces without needing to make huge turns or adjustments. Safety is increased with the tighter turning radius and damage is avoided to facilities and items. Efficiency is further achieved by lessening the space and time required to travel around the job.
Numerous side loader features can be customized to suit a job site. Customizable options include lift capacities, lift mast heights, tine length, mirrors, lights and more.
Certain features are also adjustable, allowing for further customization of the side loader for the particular job application. Travel speed, acceleration time, load limits and breaking force can all be set allowing further job efficiency and increased workplace safety.
For all of the above reason, the side loader forklift has become the most popular option for workplaces where space is limited and long loads are involved.
